Australia is known all over the world as the home to some of the most fantastic creatures on the earth, and one of the best places to catch a sight of them is at Waratah Park in the city.
Recent law amendments have made it illegal to cuddle Sydney’s Koalas – which many visitors to the Waratah Park find a real killjoy – because the animals really look so much in need of a good cuddle.
Koala’s apparent need for cuddling can perhaps be explained by the diet of the animals – which consists of little else but gum leaves- and which, for its nutritional value, explains the remarkably less than cute look of Koalas, and is thus one the reasons the animals look so much in need of a cuddle. Unfortunately, for the authorities, this apparent need of a cuddle for Koalas is not so clear, hence the cuddling ban for visitors to Sydney. If cuddling a Koala has always been one your life dreams (or goals) and you feel that you will get sick if you don’t cuddle a Koala, you can still get an opportunity to cuddle one – but for this, you will have a travel a little more to the nearby Queensland, where for whatever inexplicable reason, the authorities have not banned Koala cuddling.
In days when Koala cuddling was allowed, one of the hallmarks of visits to the Waratah Park used to be posing for a photograph while cuddling a Koala. These kinds of photographs used to be astonishing – and could leave folks back home wondering whether they were real or whether you had fabricated them with the Photoshop package. With the recent legislation, however, it becomes obviously impossible to get a photo of yourself cuddling a Koala, though you can get still get the opportunity to be photographed with a Koala in the background.
Photographing and cuddling business aside though, animals like Koalas and Kangaroos are truly fantastic animals, animals that can be seen in hardly any other place in the world –and just having the opportunity to see them in Sydney is to many people something great in itself.
There are of course other animal parks in Sydney – but what sets Waratah park aside from the rest is the fact that the animals in Waratah park are living in conditions very similar to their natural habitats in the wild, and conspicuously notable also, is the fact that the park lacks those cages which in the parks that use them, make animal watching more of an a pity than an enjoyable experience. This is because for any human being with any feelings for animals, the sight of a proud animal enclosed in a cage makes for a pitiful sight than for anything else. It could even trigger some feelings of guilt in you as an animal lover, seeing that the animals are caged solely for your enjoyment. All this caging business is thankfully absent from Sydney’s Waratah Park, which therefore makes it the best place to see animals in the city.
