Redfern has been an industrial region. Previously it was home to Chinese inhabitants. It had some very good sand hills, swamps and even market gardens.
It has become a commercial and business centre. There also has been lot of demand for flats and complexes here and of late it has become a residential area.

There are many open spaces and parks here. You could book for any city park for conducting functions etc. Many community festivals are also conducted in the open parks.
Beaconsfield Park
It has a beautiful playground which is fenced neatly. Other facilities include barbecuing facilities. There are also tennis courts and basketball courts.
Prince Alfred Park
It has a very large outdoor swimming pool. There are tennis courts, a very large playground and also green grass areas. The swimming pools are neatly maintained.
Turruwul Park, Rosebery
It is a sports area and has lot of entertainment and excitement to offer. It has a very big tennis court and a handball wall.

There are many swimming pools here. One of the famous tennis courts here is the Beaconsfield Park.
Library
The Waterloo library has a wide range of magazines, books in every field by worldwide authors. It is open from Monday to Thursday from 1000 hrs to 1800 hrs. It is closed on Sundays. They also follow some public holidays.
Entertainment
There are many museums, galleries, cinema theatres and performance theatres. Some of the museums have some very ethnic articles on display. Antique arts and artifacts are also displayed at the galleries here.
Shopping
Cleveland Street is a shopping area. It caters to most of the shopping for local residents. The shops here have everything from clothing, household goods to eateries, and many more entertainment facilities.
There are some very good shops offering Indian sweets and delicacies. Lebanese delicacies are also available in some shops. The shops also display some very good stuff on sale. The Redfern street and the Regent street also have some outlets which conduct discount sale. Waterloo is a food lovers paradise. You could get to gobble up some very great and delicious Italian food. There are also cafes where you could sip your coffee with a variety of bakery products.
Dining
Danks street has some very fine dining restaurants which are open even during the day. The restaurants offer Lebanese delicacies and also Middle Eastern delicacies. There are many cafes in the Elizabeth Street. There are restaurants which have a variety of cuisines starting with Indian, Malaysian and Italian. The Bourke and Crown Street also have some ethnic eateries.
It also has a very active night life and the pubs here are also economically priced.
